dcb legal sent an email a couple of days ago mentioning a settlement and it had a filled in claimant's N180 directions questionnaire attached

This ties up with the earlier advice about how dcb legal typically proceed in these bulk claims.

As per advice I will ignore it and just keep an eye on mail for any further correspondence.

Yes, this is all normal. You are now waiting for your Directions Questionnaire (N180). When your MCOL history updates showing that yours has been sent, just follow this advice:

Having received your own N180 (make sure it is not simply a copy of the claimants N180) or been notified on MCOL that yours has been sent, do not use the paper form. Ignore all the other forms that came with it. you can discard those. DO NOT scan it. Download your own N180 DQ here and fill it in on your computer. You sign it by simply typing your full name in the signature box.

Here are the answers to some of the less obvious questions:
  • The name of the court is "Civil National Business Centre".
  • To be completed by "Your full name" and you are the "Defendant".
  • C1: "YES"
  • D1: "NO". Reason: "I wish to question the Claimant about their evidence at a hearing in person and to expose omissions and any misleading or incorrect evidence or assertions.
  • Given the Claimant is a firm who complete cut & paste parking case paperwork for a living, having this case heard solely on papers would appear to put the Claimant at an unfair advantage, especially as they would no doubt prefer the Defendant not to have the opportunity to expose the issues in the Claimants template submissions or speak as the only true witness to events in question"
  • F1: Whichever is your nearest county court. Use this to find it: https://www.find-court-tribunal.service....rch-option
  • F3: "1".
  • Sign the form by simply typing your full name for the signature.

When you have completed the form, attach it to a single email addressed to both dq.cnbc@justice.gov.uk and info@blegal.co.uk and CC in yourself. Make sure that the claim number is in the subject field of the email.

Hello

I have dropped the ball and had a few unopened letters these past few weeks, one of which was the directions questionnaire

The cover page says "You must by 9 July 2026 complete the..."

What happens now that I have missed the deadline, is there any action I can take?

Thanks

Hopefully not a problem. The N180 DQ is an administrative form. Normally you will get an order reminding you to complete it.

Right now, download your own form and complete it according to this and email it today to both DQ.cnbc@justice.gov.uk and CC the claimant (or their solicitor, if they’re using one) and yourself.

You can check your MCOL history to see when your own N180 has been issued or just wait to receive it in the post. Having received your own N180 (make sure it is not simply a copy of the claimants N180) or been notified on MCOL that yours has been sent, do not use the paper form. Ignore all the other forms that came with it. you can discard those. DO NOT scan it. Download your own N180 DQ here and fill it in on your computer. hello!

Sorry a bit last minute but I have my mediation call today

It's a 13:30 to 16:30 slot  Rolleyes

What do I say on the call? I think I read maybe in another thread back when I was looking at this, that you just say no you don't want to settle and that's that, the call basically ends?

edit: saw in the other threads to just offer £0 so that is what I will do Smile

@ntown, yes — keep it very simple.

Tell the mediator that you deny liability in full and your settlement offer is £0. You do not need to rehearse the whole defence or get drawn into arguing the case with the mediator.

If they come back with an offer from DCB Legal, just reject it and repeat that your position remains £0.

Do not identify the driver or volunteer anything beyond what has already been disclosed.

The mediation call is not the hearing. Its purpose is simply to see whether there is any settlement available. If your position is £0 and theirs is payment of money, there is nothing to mediate and the call will be very short.

Given DCB Legal's usual conduct in these claims, I would not be negotiating against yourself. Maintain £0 and let the claim continue.
